GreenLink Receives “Initiative of the Year” Award

GreenLink Alliance, based in Mount Crawford, Va., is a non-profit trade association dedicated to promoting energy conservation in existing buildings through the use of building-automation and control technologies. GreenLink supports the efforts of manufacturers and integrators by promoting their products and services nationwide. The association also provides information about existing and proposed federal and state incentives that can be utilized to alleviate the initial costs of a building retrofit. more

Dallas Cowboys’ Stadium Provides Backdrop for ABB Road Show

Visitors to the ABB Power & Control Road Show in the Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium saw ABB’s automation solutions in static exhibits and how the stadium utilizes a variety of these solutions to operate much of its “moving architecture.” Nearly 600 prospects and customers from the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metro area along with more than 400 ABB sales and channel partners turned out Nov. 4 and 5 for the event. more

Packaged Pumping Systems Offer Three-Year Warranty

Packaged Pumping Systems LLC, now offers a three‐year standard warranty on all parts and labor of its HVAC Packaged Pumping Systems. The systems received ETL Listing Certification after passing all testing performed by Intertek Testing Services NA Inc. as required by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Section 778 for Pump Systems. The successful completion of all tests allows Packaged Pumping Systems to label its systems with the ETL Listing Mark and receive full ETL Certification and Listing.

BuildSite Launches Green Data

BuildSite, a source of product, technical, and procurement information for construction, announced the launch of BuildSite Green Data at the 2009 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo. Green Data offers a searchable database of green-building materials combined with online templates for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) product submittals. Submittal templates are based on the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Online reporting requirements. more

Siemens Purchases Green Power

Siemens Industry Inc.’s Building Technologies Division is purchasing green power, a sustainability practice recognized and supported through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Green Power Partnership. To reduce its overall carbon footprint, the company has been buying renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Texas utility Reliant Energy since 2008. In the most recent fiscal year, the Building Technologies Division has purchased more than 2.5 million kwh of green power consumed by its Buffalo Grove, Ill., corporate campus, which includes its manufacturing facility and suburban Chicago branch office. These purchases account for nearly 8 percent of the entire electricity consumption of all Building Technologies Division facilities nationwide. more

Control System Reduces Hotel-Room Energy Consumption

Magnum Energy Solutions put their Verde wireless and batteryless energy-control system, enabled by EnOcean, to the test in an independent study conducted at a Wyndham Hotel in Boston. The test sought to measure the HVAC and lighting energy savings that could be realized by utilizing sensor and control devices that respond to hotel-room-occupancy statuses. Testing concluded that hotel rooms controlled by the system consumed 33-percent less energy than rooms without the energy-harvesting controls. more
